Installing Nest Boxes
Wednesday 9th September 10am
Help us to install bird boxes in oak woodland in the Elan Valley.
For this opportunity we will meet at the Elan Valley Trust at 10am and expect to be finished back at the Elan Valley Trust by 3pm.
We have some bird boxes that will need to be installed in oak woodlands. These need to be securely attached to the trees using screws and a drill / impact driver, numbered and the exact location recorded, to allow our bird monitoring
volunteers to locate the nest boxes. On one site we will also be cleaning out the nest boxes that we put up the previous year (wearing gloves). No experience necessary. Training will be given.

Peatland Restoration
We are trialling a few different methods to slow water flow and trap sediment from peat erosion on a blanket bog sites where peat cutting has occurred. The idea is to see what land managers can do on a small scale with local materials, where use of machinery is impractical. The desired outcome is wetter bog areas, with colonisation of sphagnum mosses, and reduced Molinia dominance.
This project will span 4 weeks, you are welcome to join us for any or all of the volunteer days. The dates are:
Wednesday 13th Aug – Wool bund making
Wednesday 19th Aug – Wool bund making
Wednesday 26th Aug – Wool bund making
Wednesday 2nd September – Installing wool bunds on site
