We’re looking for volunteers who would like to help us restore and preserve natural habitats and the precious wildlife of the Elan Estate. Enjoy the fresh air, the beautiful scenery and meet new people, at the same time making a difference to our valuable ecosystem.

We are looking for volunteers to help with conservation management projects including:
🌎 Peatland Code Surveys 🌎
4th March, 18th March, 1st April
During the survey we follow a 100m grid. We walk from one point to the next all the way along the line, stopping every 100m to accurately measure the depth of the peat (to the nearest cm). The depth of the peat and the condition of the peat is then recorded on a tablet before moving on 100m to the next point. ✨ Dark Sky Festival Stewards ✨
27th and 28th March
We are looking for volunteer stewards for the first ever Elan Dark Skies festival. No experience necessary – you must be confident and happy to talk to people. We still need volunteer stewards for the following events –
Dinner at Penbont house (complementary dinner for volunteers) 😁
Starlit concert with Toby Hay and Holly Blackshaw
Light painting with Dafydd Wyn Morgan
Lantern procession
🐣 Curlew Monitoring 🐣
We need your help to monitor curlew in the Elan Valley! Curlew are a red listed bird in the UK and without intervention they could be extinct within as little as 8 years. We are looking for volunteers to monitor different areas of the valley throughout the curlew season this year – March – July. The training is on Tuesday 3rd March – 10am – 1pm.
