Elan Valley Trust is offering an exciting opportunity to farm within one of Wales’ most iconic upland landscapes. From 29th September 2026, four farm holdings within the Elan Valley Estate will be available to let, opening the door for new and experienced farmers to live, work and build thriving businesses in the heart of Mid Wales.
A Unique Moment for Upland Farming
Charlotte Harley, Estate Manager at the Elan Valley Trust, explains the decision:
“Following the introduction of the Sustainable Farming Scheme the Trust has taken the opportunity to review its farming operations. With this review we have decided to release some of holdings and with our remaining focus on farming for nature.
Opportunities like this don’t come along often. These are working farms in a very special part of Wales, and we want to see them in the hands of people who are serious about farming the land well and joining this established and collaborative upland farming community.”
The Available Holdings
The four holdings being released include a mix of fully equipped farms and bare land sheepwalks and all come with a hefted sheep flock.
All holdings will be offered under Farm Business Tenancies, with full details outlined in the individual holding particulars.
Across all holdings, the Trust is keen to appoint tenants who align with its wider goals —those who can work collaboratively to support nature conservation, public access and community benefit.
